Ever wonder what I am Looking For During Movement Screens?

You might say:

“my balance is bad” or “I’m just stiff” or “I’m weak.”

I’m looking for the why behind it. The little clues your body gives you when you move.

In your videos, I’m watching for things like:

• hip drop / pelvic control

• trunk sway and rib flare

• decreased thoracic rotation (mid-back)

• head/neck compensation (cervical rotation)

• hip turnout control (hip external rotation)

• foot/ankle strategy + toe grip

• knee tracking + alignment under load

• where you “borrow” motion vs where you actually have it

Because two people can do the same movement… and the movement pattern and compensation strategy can be totally different.

But here is where my approach is different than other clinicians..

Yes, I can watch you walk and see all of this information. However, if your pain, stiffness, ache, etc. doesnt bother you when you are walking then what is the point?

This is why I have my dancers send me core movements related to their style so I can see where the deficits are.

An example of what I usually ask for is a video of you doing these movements:

🎥 1) Grand plié (front + side view if you can)

🎥 2) Passé — right + left

🎥 3) Arabesque — right + left

If you find yourself limiting your dancing... this is the best time to start working on improving your deficits. Before an injury limits you.
